What are Family Safaris?

Reference:

The Booking Company offers you a chance to experience the real Africa on a family adventure safari in the unspoilt wilderness of Botswana. We will ensure that this Botswana Safari will be an adventure of a lifetime for the whole family.

What makes a safari perfect for your family? In our opinion it`s choosing tours and places to stay that have taken children into consideration. In Botswana you’ll find lodges and tours that have activities and facilities specifically designed with the family in mind.
We plan the trip around your family’s interests and budget. A holiday sleeping under canvas, the first time a lion roar is heard, walking in the bush and identifying spoor and so many other African experiences will ensure that this holiday is never forgotten.

Medications
Great news for those families who have always wanted to travel to Africa, but were nervous of malaria and taking prophylaxis. Malarone has been launched in the UK in a children`s formulation (Malarone Paediatric) and is the first ever malaria tablet designed just for kids. The good thing about Malarone Paediatric is that it can be started just 1 day before travel and only need to be continued for seven days after leaving a malaria area. The weight of the child determines the dose - for more information contact your doctor or travel clinic.

Age Restrictions on Safaris
Many safari tours have age restrictions on children, which is why an independently booked safari is a better option for those traveling with children under 12. Many tour operators feel it is unsafe for small children to be sitting in the back of an open safari vehicle while viewing wildlife. Children are also more prone to sunburn, falling ill or just general boredom on these long game drives. It is also imperative when you are viewing wildlife, to keep quiet and that`s sometimes difficult to enforce with a small child. Some adventure options like canoeing or walking safaris are not suitable for children under 12.
Most lodges also have age limits. Wild animals roam in close proximity to camps and there`s a real risk to your child if they decide to leave the tent on their own. Some lodges may not have suitable dining options for small children.

Kwando Safaris welcome children to their camps, namely Lagoon Camp, Kwara Camp, Kwando Lebala Camp. Kwando Safaris have specially trained guides for families. This means that families have their own private vehicle with their own guide and tracker who will look after them both on game drive and in camp. The programs are different for each family based on the ages, sexes and interests of the children.
CC Africa, Desert and Delta Safaris and Wilderness Safaris also offer family rooms in some of their lodges and various children programmes.

Please contact us regarding other camps and lodges that are geared for children and we can tailor make your special family safari.
