Tsodilo Hills Cultural Tour

Reference:

Tsodilo has some of the highest concentrations of rock art in the world, and is fondly known as the `Louvre of the Desert`. Over 4,500 paintings are preserved in this area. The archaeological record of the area gives a chronological account of human activities and environmental changes over at least 100,000 years. Local communities respect Tsodilo as a place of worship frequented by ancestral spirits. Experience this amazing place on a day excursion from Maun.

Region: Ngamiland District

Package Type: Cultural Safaris

Highlights: • See Botswana from the air - Charter flight from Maun to Tsodilo Hills
• Visit to Tsodilo Museum
• Guided walk to see more paintings
• Picnic lunch

Day: 1

Itinerary: Upon your arrival into Maun Airport you will be met and welcomed by a representative from The Booking Company, who will welcome you and who will assist you with your connection onto light aircraft for your flight to Tsodilo Hills. Tsodilo Hills are about 300km north of Maun

Tsodilo was made famous by Laurens Van der Post in his book ´Lost World of the Kalahari´. Laurens van der Post writes that his party ignored the advice of their local guide, who warned against killing in the surrounding hills. His party had hunted warthog and steenbok on their way.
When they reached the hills their cameras jammed repeatedly, their tape recorders failed, and they were repeatedly attacked by swarms of bees. These strange occurrences only ceased when they made a written apology to the spiritis of Tsodilo.

The day starts with a visit to the museum to acquaint ourselves with the history of Tsodilo Hills followed by a guided walk (and some climbing). This will allow you to see some of the more inaccessible, and interesting paintings, whilst allowing you to enjoy some breath taking scenery too.
You will enjoy a picnic lunch stop amongst the hills.
In the afternoon you will enjoy a short visit to the local San village, before flying back to Maun on your charter flight.

Notes/Other: Please Note: This itinerary is an example only, and can be tailor-made to suit your personal requirements. We can combine this proposed itinerary with other camps in Botswana. Accordingly, no price is indicated, as this will depend upon a number of factors, such as your routing and duration of stay.
