A special area has been set aside in the northern reaches of the Selinda Reserve for walking safaris. The Selinda area is characterised by its game-rich floodplains with great predator viewing and plenty of elephant.
This particular walking trail is a `backed up` walking trail. You will start the safari with a night at one of the reserve`s permanent camps -Selinda or Zibadianja. The trail will head out from here and terminate at one of two Trails Camps - Mokoba and Tshwene.

Region: Linyanti

Highlights: • Each camp has three tents that are raised off the ground
• Each Trail group has its own private, licensed guide for the duration of the Trail.
• The camp's hostess handles all the camp chores with the camp staff
• species more commonly seen on foot include: buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, warthog, hippo, hyena and a wide variety of antelope
• Birding is excellent - 310 species have been recorded on The Selinda Reserve

Day: 1

Itinerary: On your arrival into Maun Airport you will be met and welcomed by a representative from The Booking Company, who will welcome you and who will assist you with your connection onto light aircraft for your flight to Selinda Private Reserve.
You are met at the Selinda airstrip and transferred by vehicle to the first camp - either Mokoba situated on the floodplains in the north east, or Tshwene situated on the Selinda Spillway. After settling into your room and meeting the guide, you will take an easy walk in the vicinity of camp with the armed guide.
This walk may be only a couple of kilometres, but the duration depends on what is seen on the trail. The protocols of walking in a big game area are established and you are able to acclimatise to the environment.
Spend the evening around the camp fire while hearty meals are being prepared on the coals. Listen to the night sounds which may include roars of lion and the call of African Scops-Owl.

Mokoba and Tshwene camps are semi-permanent and comprise of 3 twin-bedded mini-Meru style tents on raised wooden decks with facilities for a sleep-out option. Each tent has a hand basin and flush toilet. You will share a twin hot bucket shower from the privacy of your secluded "ablution deck". Light is provided by means of hurricane lanterns and a battery system. Hot water is provided by means of either a solar- or gas-powered system depending on weather conditions. Luggage is transferred from camp to camp, so you only need to carry your cameras and binoculars.

Day: 2

Itinerary: After a early wake-up call and light breakfast, you will head out on a morning walk exploring the surroundings. You will be searching for both large mammals and all the other interesting facets of the environment. Zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and impala are commonly encountered, but the focus of the walk is also on medical and traditional uses of plants, the insects and birds. Large species such as buffalo and elephant are also frequently encountered and sightings with predators such as lion are possible. In the event that something interesting is discovered on foot, such as a lion kill, the Trails back-up vehicle can be used for drives to get closer to the action. It also gives you the opportunity to do night drives if you so wish.

You return to camp for brunch and enjoy a midday siesta. Enjoy a shorter late afternoon walk in the vicinity of camp. The evening meal is enjoyed around the fire, with time for reflection before retiring.

Day: 3

Itinerary: After a early wake-up call and light breakfast, you will head out on a morning walk that will take you to the next camp in a different part of the concession.
You will experience a variety of habitats on a gentle nature walk and en route to the next camp you will have time for game viewing and ecological interpretation.
All luggage is transported to the next camp by vehicle. You arrive in camp in time for brunch and spend the midday relaxing and settling in camp.
In the afternoon you will enjoy a shorter walk complete with sundowners.
Return to the camp fire and dinner.

Day: 4

Itinerary: After an early wake-up call and light breakfast, you can enjoy a short walk or a morning game drive en route to the Selinda airstrip.
You may decided to extend your stay at either of Zibadianja or Selinda Camps.

Notes/Other: Please Note: This itinerary is an example only, and can be tailor-made to suit your personal requirements. We can combine this proposed itinerary with other camps in Botswana. Accordingly, no price is indicated, as this will depend upon a number of factors, such as your routing and duration of stay.
