Footsteps Walking Trail is an authentic experience of walking in the Botswana bush. The guides are very experienced and you will enjoy 3 -4 hour walks in the morning and in the afternoon. These are not route marches, but opportunities to explore the environment and wildlife with an expert guide. You will learn about the plant-life, how to read the tracks and signs left by animals and all about the Delta`s ecosystem.

Itinerary:

Upon your arrival into Maun Airport you will be met by a representative from The Booking Company, who will meet you and assist you with your connection onto light aircraft for your flight to Shinde Airstrip. Footsteps Camp is about a 40 minute game drive away. Footsteps is rustic camp, located on the edge of a hippo-filled lagoon (the camp is fully portable and can be moved to a new location) Footsteps Camp takes a maximum of six visitors. You will sleep on proper twin beds inside insect proof tents with sewn-in floors. Each tent has a private bucket shower and long-drop toilet. Footsteps has a full bar and laundry service, and a dedicated chef, who prepares tasty fresh meals of a high standard. All the hot food is cooked in a ground oven which is fascinating to watch. Upon your arrival into camp, you will be briefed on activities and safety during your stay. Later in the afternoon, you will venture out on your first walk - your first lesson in the bush and some basic pointers regarding animal behaviour and respect for all the inhabitants of the wilderness.

Itinerary:

The daily schedule at Footsteps is determined by you and can be changed when you are in camp. The general routine will be a dawn wake up call with coffee/tea. Meet at the mess tent for a light breakfast and then head off walking when the sun is up. Return to camp for brunch and a midday siesta. Set off after high tea for an afternoon walk and game drive. Wild dog and lion are often seen in the area and also a variety of plains game including kudu, tsessebe, zebra, giraffe and impala. If you wish, you can also go on game drives and mokoro excursions, depending on water levels. Footsteps Camp also caters for Family groups, with children as young as seven years old. You can hire the whole Footsteps camp, including the services of one of the guides, who specializes in guiding children. Activities will be varied - from making bows and arrows to cooking on a fire.The guides teach children to identify animals and their tracks, to learn bush skills like cooking on a fire and fishing. The emphasis is on learning to understand and respect the natural environment.
